Halli Tindi

We are located at No.3 in the People Building on Bull Temple Road. It is right across from the Ganesha Temple in Basavanagudi. This part of the city still feels like old Bangalore. We start our day when it’s still dark outside. The first thing we do is get the water boiling for the coffee and the idlis. By the time the sun is up, there is steam coming out of the front. People who go to the temple usually stop by afterward. We don't have a lot of tables, so it gets a bit cramped during the morning rush. Most people don't mind standing. The menu is simple and we don't change it much. We use the same recipes that have been around for years. The floor is made of old stone and we sweep it out several times a day. Basavanagudi is a place where people like to talk, so it gets quite noisy in here with all the chatter. We don't have any servers in uniforms. It’s just us behind the counter passing out plates. Sometimes we run out of sambar before the lunch hour is over. We just do our best with what we have. The building itself is a bit old, but it has a lot of character. We like being near the temple because the bells ringing in the morning are a nice way to start work. It’s just a basic place for a quick meal before people go about their day.
