You can find Gayatri Devi Junior High School at No 8 in the Chowdeshwari Building. We are right near Hanuman Glass & Plywood, which is a big landmark for people trying to find us in Uttarahalli. Being in this part of Bangalore means there is always noise from the street, but you get used to it. The school takes up a few floors and we have kids coming in from all the nearby lanes. It’s a practical setup. We don’t have a big playground, so we make do with the space we have. The rooms are filled with old wooden benches and blackboards. Every morning, the stairs get crowded with students heading to their classes. It’s a lively place, maybe a bit too loud sometimes, but that’s what happens with schools. We keep the curriculum straightforward. There’s no need for fancy extras when the basics are what matter most. The parents around here are mostly working-class people who want their kids to get an education. We know most of them by face. Sometimes we have to deal with the typical city problems like traffic jams right outside our door. It’s just how life is in this part of the city. We’ve been here for a while and don’t plan on changing much. Just trying to run a decent school for the neighborhood kids without any fuss or making big claims that we cannot back up for the families.
