Garments

Our garment business is located in a place called Sellai Pellai Gounden Pudur. It is in the Sankarandampalaiyam post area of Dharapuram, within the Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu. This is a very rural area but it is right in the middle of where all the clothes are made. We have a small workspace where we do the cutting and stitching. It is not a big fancy factory. It is a local operation where we employ people from the nearby villages. The sound of the sewing machines is going all day long. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we have big fans and keep the doors open to the fields. We don't have a marketing department or any corporate offices. The work is mostly manual and involves a lot of lifting and moving fabric around. We have stacks of cotton and polyester in different colors piled up against the walls. Most of our time is spent making sure the stitching is okay and that we are meeting our deadlines. The address is quite a mouthful if you aren't from around here, but it is home to us. We have been part of the Tirupur garment trade for many years now. It is a hard life but it is honest work. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. We just make clothes and send them out to the people who need them in India.
