You can find Gandhi Matriculation Higher Secondary School at 130 Lalbagh Road. This is a very old and famous part of Bangalore, right near the botanical gardens. The traffic on Lalbagh Road is almost always heavy, so there’s a constant hum of engines in the background of our classes. The school building is an older structure with thick walls and high doorways. It has a bit of a historical feel to it. Inside, the classrooms are filled with rows of benches and large chalkboards. We have a lot of stairs to climb since the school is spread over several floors. The view from the top windows shows the tops of the trees from Lalbagh. We have a small canteen area where the kids can buy some snacks, but most bring their own boxes from home. The morning assembly is held in the courtyard, which is a bit tight when everyone is there at once. We have a small library that’s usually quite quiet, which is a nice change from the street noise. The administrative office is right near the main entrance, and it’s usually busy with parents and former students dropping by. We’ve been part of this community for a long time. It’s not a fancy school with air conditioning or the latest gadgets, but it serves the families in this area well. We just keep our heads down and focus on the teaching, year after year, in the heart of the city.
