If you are walking through Gandhi Bazaar, you will probably see G R Colours. We are at 3/4-C on N A T Road, right in the heart of Basavanagudi. This area is always full of the smell of flowers and fresh vegetables from the market nearby. Our shop is quite small, and we have bags and tins of things piled up everywhere. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are inside at the same time. I’ve been working here for years, and I still get confused sometimes about where we tucked away a specific shade or brand of paint. We get a lot of local painters and people doing up their houses who stop by to ask for advice on what to use. We don’t have a big sales pitch or anything prepared. We just tell them what we have on the shelf and what we think will work for their walls. The floor is stained with about a hundred different colors because we’ve spilled quite a few things over the years. It gives the place character, I suppose. The morning is our busiest time when the market is just waking up and the vendors are setting up. We usually have a coffee from the stall around the corner and start opening the wooden crates. It’s a good place to be, even if the traffic on N A T Road makes it hard for people to park. We just keep things moving every day.
