Earth Kitchen

You can find us at Earth Kitchen on Hesargatta Main Road, right near where Elphiston Road crosses over at number 11. It’s a busy intersection, so there is always the sound of horns and engines in the background. We wanted a place that felt a bit more grounded, which is why we picked this name. It’s not a fancy organic place like you see in the city center. We just try to use good ingredients that we find at the local markets every morning. I usually head out at 5 AM to pick up the vegetables myself because I don't trust the delivery guys to get the fresh stuff. The kitchen is small, and sometimes we run out of things earlier than we'd like. I hate telling people we're out of a dish, but that's what happens when you don't use frozen stuff. The walls are painted a simple off-white, though they could probably use a fresh coat soon. We have some old wooden tables that we found at a second-hand market and sanded down ourselves. They have some scratches and marks on them, but they’ve got character. It’s just me and two other helpers running the whole show. We don't have a manager or a marketing person. We just open the doors, cook what we have, and hope people enjoy the meal. It’s a lot of work, but it feels right.
