Our shop is over in Vyalikaval, right on the 10th Cross. Most people know where it is because we’re right across from the Vyalikaval Police Station. It’s a handy landmark for anyone trying to find us for the first time. We’ve been at this spot on 2nd Main Road for quite some time. The neighborhood is mostly quiet, which we like. The shop has a few old chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years, but they’re comfortable enough. We usually open up early because some of the older men in the area like to get their hair cut before the sun gets too hot. It’s a routine. We have some newspapers lying around, though mostly people just look at their phones these days. The police officers from across the road pop in sometimes. It keeps us on our toes. The mirrors are a bit old, maybe a little cloudy around the edges, but they work fine. We don’t do anything too fancy here, just regular haircuts and shaves. My brother helps out on the weekends when it gets crowded. Bangalore weather can be unpredictable, so when it rains, people crowd into the doorway to stay dry. We just keep working. It’s a small place, but it’s ours and we’ve been here long enough that the walls feel familiar. We don’t plan on moving anywhere else anytime soon. It’s just a part of who we are now, sitting here and watching the world go by from our front door.
