Chandra Provision Stores

Chandra Provision Stores has been on Mahakavi Kuvempu Road for as long as I can remember. We are at number 489 in Rajajinagar, which is a pretty settled neighborhood. Our day starts before the sun is even up. We have to open the shutters and get the milk packets sorted and the newspapers stacked. It is a lot of heavy lifting, especially when the sacks of rice and dal arrive from the wholesalers. We don't have fancy scanners or a website; we just use a ledger and our memory for most things. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes it takes a minute to find exactly what a customer is looking for in the back corner. People around here have been coming to us for years, so we know most of their names and what they usually buy on a Tuesday morning. The floor is old stone, and it gets worn down from all the walking back and forth between the bins. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of fans that hum all day long near the ceiling. It gets a bit cramped when there are more than four people in the shop at once, but we manage. We aren't trying to be like the big supermarkets. We just want to keep the bins full and the regulars happy. It is a simple life, mostly spent weighing out items and chatting with neighbors.
