Our place is at 185 Mahadevapura near the Dandekar Bridge. We are right in Lokmanya Nagar, and being next to the Ganesh Temple is a big part of our daily life. We hear the bells and the prayers while we are loading up bags of cement and other materials. It’s a very dusty job, and by the end of the day, everything we touch has a thin layer of grey on it. We don't have a fancy office with glass doors. It’s a functional space with heavy stacks of materials and a simple wooden desk where we keep our books. The Dandekar Bridge is always busy, so there’s a lot of noise from the vehicles passing by. We spend most of our time outside or in the warehouse area. It’s heavy work, lifting and moving stuff all day long. We know most of the local builders and contractors who come through here. They usually stop for a quick chat about the weather or the traffic before they head off to their sites. We use a lot of handwritten notes to keep track of things. The temple next door gives the place a calm feeling despite all the trucks and the dust. When it rains, we have to move fast to cover everything up. It’s a basic, honest way to make a living. We’ve been here long enough that we feel like part of the bricks and mortar of Mahadevapura.
