Bishop Cotton Girl'S School

Our address is 1, St. Marks Road, right in the middle of everything. Bishop Cotton Girl's School has been part of this street for a very long time. It’s a busy corner of the city, and the traffic outside is almost never-ending. Once you pass through the gates, though, it feels a lot different. We have these old buildings with thick walls and high ceilings that stay cool even when it’s hot outside. It’s a lot of work to keep an old place like this running properly. Something always needs a bit of repair or a touch-up. We don’t have a corporate office or anything like that. Our staff sits in rooms that have been used for decades. There’s a lot of paper moving around—forms, reports, and homework. We follow a strict schedule because that’s the only way to manage so many students in one place. The bells are loud and they tell us exactly what to do all day. We have some green space and big trees that have probably been here longer than any of us. People know us because we’ve been here so long, not because we do a lot of advertising. We just focus on the daily lessons and making sure the girls are where they need to be. It’s a busy, sometimes loud, and very old-fashioned way of doing things, but it’s just how we operate here. We just come in, do our jobs, and get ready for the next day.
