About Banashankari Rice Corner – Food & Beverages in Bengaluru
Banashankari Rice Corner has been in Kumarswamy Layout 1325 for quite a few years now. The shop is mostly just a big open space filled with heavy jute bags of rice stacked up against the walls. It gets a bit dusty inside when we have to shift the stock around to reach a specific variety. Most people from the neighborhood just walk in and ask for twenty kilos or whatever they need for their home cooking. We do not do anything fancy here, just weigh the grain out on the old scale and bag it up. Sometimes the scale acts a bit funny if the weather is too humid, so I have to keep an eye on it. There is a small wooden stool in the corner where I sit when the street gets quiet. Speaking of the street, it is usually quite loud with all the traffic and people heading to the nearby market. You can smell the scent of raw rice the second you walk through the door. It is a very specific smell that stays on your clothes. I spend a lot of my time making sure the bags are closed tight so the pests stay out. Sona Masuri is what most families around here want. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we just have to wait. The concrete floor is hard and cold, especially in the mornings. It is just a normal shop doing the same thing every day. Nothing much happens, just neighborhood talk and selling rice.
