We’ve been running Ami Gifts & Novelties here on the Marathahalli service road for a good while now. The address is 93/7 231, and it’s a spot most locals know if they’re heading toward the bridge. The shop is filled with all sorts of things, from plastic toys to greeting cards that have been on the shelf a bit too long. It gets quite dusty because of all the traffic outside, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the glass counters. People usually come in when they’ve forgotten a birthday and need something quick. We have some wind chimes, some photo frames, and those little glass showpieces that everyone likes for housewarmings. It’s not a huge place, but we try to keep it organized enough so you can find a pen or a gift wrap without asking. Sometimes the lights flicker when the power goes wonky, which happens often in this part of town. I usually sit near the front door to catch whatever breeze comes in. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just a regular shop where we sell what people need. My nephew helps out on weekends when it gets busy. We see the same faces mostly, people living in the apartments nearby. It’s a decent living, even with the noise from the main road always humming in the background. We just keep the shutters open and wait for the next customer to walk in.
