Abc Saloon

If you’re driving down Hesaragatta Main Road in Bangalore, you’ll see Abc Saloon right across from the Janapriya Apartment complex. We are at number 56 in Chikbanavara, and the pincode is 560090. The shop is a local landmark for the folks living in the apartments and the surrounding houses. It’s a simple place with a blue door that we keep open most of the day to let the breeze in, though when the Bangalore rain starts, we have to shut it quick. Inside, there are three chairs and a long bench where people sit and scroll through their phones or read the newspaper while they wait. We’ve got the typical saloon mirrors that have seen better days and a radio that’s usually playing some local tunes in the background. It’s a friendly atmosphere where neighbors often run into each other and catch up on local news. We don’t try to be like those expensive malls; we just offer a decent place to sit down and get trimmed up. The floor is covered in tiles that we’ve had since we opened, and they’ve worn down a bit over time. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too high and stay open until the street lights come on. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day after day, in our little corner of the city. Usually, we end the day by sweeping up and getting things ready.
