Our office is at Race Course Road 49. It's a fairly old building, but it serves us well enough for what we do. Working here means you get used to the sounds of the city and the occasional race day crowds. Most of us who work here have been around for years, so we’ve seen the street change quite a bit. The interior isn't anything like those modern offices you see in the magazines. We have heavy desks and filing cabinets that have been here since the start. It gets a bit dusty with all the papers, but we try our best to keep things in order. We handle a lot of technical stuff and engineering projects, so there are usually blueprints or diagrams spread out everywhere. We don't have a fancy canteen, so we mostly just bring lunch from home or go to the small eateries nearby. The lift in the building is a bit slow and sometimes it makes a strange noise, so most of us just take the stairs. It’s a practical place to work. We don't spend much time worrying about how the office looks to outsiders. We just focus on the tasks we have for the day. Sometimes we stay late to finish up a project, and the silence of the building at night is actually quite nice. It’s a steady kind of life here at number 49. We just keep doing our work and going home at the end of the shift.
