A. One Gents Saloon

If you are walking down the Sultan Palya Main Road, you will find A. One Gents Saloon not too far from the Ashoka Hotel. It is a familiar landmark for us. The shop is at number 2, right where the road gets a bit narrow and the traffic starts to slow down. I spend most of my time here, surrounded by the smell of talcum powder and aftershave. The walls are painted a simple color, and we have a small television in the corner that is usually tuned to some news channel or a cricket match. It helps pass the time when things are slow in the afternoon. People come in from the nearby shops to chat or just to sit for a minute. We don't have those big leather chairs you see in the malls, but ours are comfortable enough for a quick trim. The fan on the ceiling wobbles a bit, making a clicking sound that you eventually stop noticing after an hour or two. It gets quite bright in here during the morning because of the way the sun hits the front glass. We keep the towels stacked up near the sink. There is always a lot of noise from the street, with bikes honking and people calling out to each other. It’s just how Sultan Palya is. Most of the customers have been coming here for years, so we don't really have to ask them how they want their hair cut anymore.
