Southern Steel Traders

Our place, Southern Steel Traders, is situated right opposite the KSRTC Bus Depot on Gokul Road. Because of the bus stand, it is always noisy and there is a lot of movement outside our gates. You can hear the buses pulling in and out all day long. We deal with steel trading, which basically means a lot of loading and unloading of heavy materials. The yard is usually full of pipes and bars. It gets quite dusty with all the wind and the traffic from Gokul Road, but we are used to it by now. We don't have a corporate office setup; it’s just a practical space where we can store the stock and meet people. Often, you will find us wearing old clothes because the steel is heavy and dirty. We have a few staff members who have been with us for years. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too high. When a customer comes in, we just talk to them and see what they are looking for. There isn’t any high-pressure sales talk here. If we have the size you need, we tell you, and if we don't, we tell you that too. Lunch is usually brought from home and eaten together in the small back room. It’s a very local way of doing things. Sometimes the heat makes it tough to work outside, but the business has to keep moving. We have stayed at this location because everyone knows the bus depot landmark.
