Our group is based at house number 361 in Nawaj Purwaramia. That is in the Behar area of Lakhimpur. The land around here in the Tarai region is quite fertile, so we grow a lot of different things throughout the year. Tarai Kisan Utpad Farmer Producer Company Limited was set up so we could work as a collective instead of struggling alone. It is a lot of hard work being a farmer these days. You have to worry about the seeds, the water, and then where to sell your harvest. We are not some polished business with fancy suits or shiny cars. Most of us are usually covered in mud or dust from being out in the fields all day. We just wanted a way to make sure our produce gets where it needs to go. Living in the 262907 zip code means we are a bit far from the big cities, so we have to stick together to survive. Every season brings some new challenges. Sometimes it is too much rain that floods everything, other times it is not enough. We sit around at the office and figure out what to do next. It is all very practical stuff with no big words. We look at the crops, talk to the other farmers in the village, and try to get the best out of our land. It is just us local people trying to make a living.
