Star Ladies Beauty Parlour & Clinic

The shop is on the ground floor of Golap Bhavan, right there near Gate No 1 in Basunagar. If you know Madhyamgram at all, you know it gets a bit crowded around here during the market hours. We opened up Star Ladies Beauty Parlour & Clinic just to have a local spot for hair and skin work. It isn't a fancy place with marble floors or anything like that. We have some decent chairs and the mirrors are clean enough. Most mornings start with sweeping the front step because the dust from the road just settles everywhere. We see a lot of the same faces from around Basu Nagar. Some ladies come in just to chat while they get their hair done. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but we have the fans going. Sometimes the power cuts out for a few minutes, which is just how it is in this part of town. We don’t have a big sign, but people find us okay since we are so close to the gate. It’s mostly just us working through the day, drinking tea between appointments. We keep a few stacks of old magazines by the door for anyone waiting. The sink in the back makes a bit of a noise if you turn the tap too far, but it works fine for washing hair. We try to keep things simple and just do the work that needs doing. There is always a pile of laundry with the towels, and the phone rings at the oddest times.
