Sonali Salons

Our shop is tucked away in Sarada Pally here in Kolkata. It is a quiet enough spot most days, though the mornings get a bit busy with people heading out. The space isn't anything fancy, just a few chairs and mirrors where we spend our hours. I started this because I wanted something of my own and I knew how to work with hair. There are days when the power goes out and we just sit and talk with whoever is in the chair until it comes back on. Most of the people who come in live right on this street or maybe the next one over. It is funny how you get to know everyone’s family business after a while. We keep the floor swept and the towels clean, which is basic but it matters. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break. It is a small life but it works for us. I have seen kids grow up coming here, first for a tiny trim and then for their bigger events later on. It makes the time feel like it is actually passing. We do not do much in the way of those big city styles you see on TV, just what people ask for. It is just a regular local shop.
