Mouli Bricks

Mouli Bricks is situated in the village of Jayrampur, which falls under the Bishnupur police station. If you're traveling through this part of the country, you’ll see our stacks of bricks piled up near the road. It isn't a high-tech facility. It is just a wide open field where we turn earth into building material. The rhythm of the day is set by the sun. We start early when it’s still cool enough to work outside. By midday, the heat is usually quite intense, so we take a long break under the trees. The local guys do most of the heavy lifting. They are strong and used to the dust. We keep our records in a simple notebook that’s always getting smudged with dirt. There’s no corporate structure here. It’s just us and the workers. The chimney is a local landmark in Jayrampur. You can see it poking up above the trees. We mostly provide for the local builders who are working on houses in the village or the nearby town. Sometimes the delivery trucks get delayed because the roads around Bishnupur can be unpredictable. We just wait it out. It is a lot of manual labor and watching the weather. We don’t have a mission statement. We just make the bricks and hope the rain stays away long enough for them to dry properly. It’s an honest way to make a living.
