About Daya Bricks – Building & Construction Material in Bankura
Out here in Dhabani village, we run our brick business. It’s a quiet area mostly, apart from the noise of the machinery and the trucks. We’ve been based in this spot for a good while, working the land to get the materials we need for the bricks. It’s a rural setting, so we are used to the rhythm of the seasons affecting how much we can produce. During the monsoon, things slow down quite a bit because the ground gets too soft and the drying process takes forever. We have a group of workers from the local community who help with the moulding and the firing. It’s hard, physical labor, and everyone just gets on with it. We aren't a big corporation; it’s more of a family-type operation where everyone knows their role. The piles of bricks grow and shrink depending on who is building what in the nearby villages. We don't have a website or anything like that. If people want bricks, they usually just drive down to the site or send word through a neighbor. We keep things very simple and practical. Our days are spent checking the kilns and making sure the bricks come out right for whoever is waiting on them. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We just want to make sure there are enough bricks for the local needs without making things more complicated than they need to be. It’s just how things have always been done in this part of the district and we like it that way.
