We’re mostly focused on bio farming, which basically means we try to avoid the heavy chemicals that everyone else is using. It’s a bit more work because you have to pay more attention to the soil and the bugs, but we think it’s worth it. We aren't doing this to be trendy; it’s just how some of the older people used to do it, and it seemed to work well. Our days are spent mixing compost and checking the health of the plants. It’s a slow process, and you don't always see the results right away. The village is quiet, and the air is pretty good out here. Sometimes people from the city come by and ask about what we’re doing. We don't have a big sales pitch for them. We just show them the fields. It’s not always pretty, and sometimes we lose a crop to insects, but that’s part of the risk. We’re just a small group of people in Banka trying to do things a little differently. It’s a lot of sweat and dirt, but we’re used to it. We hope the land stays healthy for a long time. It feels good to work with your hands and see things grow from nothing.
