Uk Furniture House sits in Sri Maruti Chambers, specifically at number 5 on the 1st Main Road in Thimmaiah Garden. It’s a part of R.T. Nagar that feels like its own little world. We have sofas and cupboards squeezed into every corner of the shop, so you have to be careful not to bump into things when you walk through. The air always smells like polish and new fabric. We spend our days moving heavy wardrobes around to make space for new stock coming in from the trucks. The street outside, Deve Gowda Road, is usually packed with bikes and people, especially in the evenings when everyone is heading home. We don't have fancy lights or a polished floor; it’s just a place where we keep furniture until someone wants to take it home. Most of us have been working here for years, and we’ve gotten used to the heavy lifting. My back hurts occasionally, but that’s the nature of the furniture business. We take our lunch breaks sitting on whatever chairs aren't sold yet, usually talking about the traffic or the weather. It’s a practical setup. When the power goes out, which happens more than we’d like, we just open the shutters wider to let the daylight in. It’s just us, a bunch of tables and beds, and the daily noise of R.T. Nagar right outside our doorstep. We don't do much besides moving things and checking the wood.
