Setting up shop at 32/1 Banneraghatta Road was a practical choice because of how the city grew around us. Being so close to the Meenakshi Temple is a bit of a mixed blessing since the festivals bring in huge crowds and make driving a bit of a nightmare. Hikal Ltd. has been operating from this spot for a while, and the building has seen better days, but it serves its purpose. Inside, it’s mostly desks and the sound of computers running. We have a small crew here. On rainy days, the road gets quite muddy, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We don’t have fancy lunchrooms, so most of us just grab something from the local stalls nearby or bring a tiffin from home. The tea lady comes by twice a day, and that’s usually when the most talking happens. We focus on our daily tasks, keeping things organized and making sure the logs are updated. It’s not the kind of place you’d see in a magazine, just a regular office where people show up and do their jobs. Sometimes the elevator acts up, so we take the stairs, which keeps us moving I guess. We aren’t trying to be anything we aren’t. It’s just a group of people working together near the temple, trying to keep things running smoothly day after day without too much drama or complicated systems.
