Reddipalayam Cement Works

Out here on the Main Road in Reddipalayam, things stay pretty busy from sunrise to sunset. You can’t really miss the site if you’re driving through the district. It’s a big operation, and there’s always a bit of grey dust in the air, which just comes with the territory of working with cement. We’ve got a lot of local guys from the tehsil working here, some of whom have been with us since they were young. The machinery is loud, and you have to raise your voice to be heard when you’re standing near the loading bays. It’s a practical place, focused on getting the bags filled and onto the flatbeds. We don’t have a nice lobby or anything like that; the office is just a small room with a fan and a view of the main gate. We spend our days watching the trucks pull in, checking the weights, and making sure the gates stay clear. The road outside is always full of traffic, especially with the tractors and trailers moving through. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we usually take turns grabbing a cold drink from the stall down the way. It’s hard work, and your clothes always end up looking a bit chalky by the end of the shift. We just focus on keeping the output steady and making sure the local projects get their supply without too many delays. It is just the way life goes here every day for the whole crew.
