Sreeramanjaneya Ammakkapeta Turmeric Farmers Producer Company Limited is a group of us based at H.No 2-73 in Ammakkapeta. As you can probably tell from the name, we focus on turmeric. This village has a lot of people who have been growing it for as long as they can remember. We decided to come together as a producer company to make things a bit easier for everyone involved. Instead of everyone working alone, we try to handle things as a group. The office is just a house in the village where we meet up to discuss prices and how the crop is looking. Turmeric is a messy business; everything ends up stained yellow after a while, including our hands and the floors. We don't have any corporate training or big business plans. We just know how to grow the roots and when to pull them out of the ground. The building we use is modest, and the street outside is usually quiet unless it's harvest time. Then, everything gets very loud and busy with tractors and people moving bags around. We spend a lot of time sitting on the porch talking about the market and the water levels. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. We are just a bunch of local farmers trying to make a living in Ammakkapeta.
