Dhanyasiri Millet Farmers Producer Company Limited is based out of Nandhibattalu Colony. We work out of Bhima Naik’s place there. Millets are what we are all about, mostly because they grow well in our soil even when the rain is scarce. The colony is a close-knit place, and everyone knows Bhima’s house by the gate. We don't have a big corporate sign or anything like that. We just have our meetings in the front room or out in the yard under the shade if the weather is nice. We spend a lot of time cleaning the grain and getting the stones out, which is tedious work but has to be done before anything can be sold. It is a small operation, mostly just family and friends from the neighborhood. We aren't looking to become world-famous; we just want to make sure we can sell our millets for a decent price. There is always a lot of dust when we are processing the grain, so we are usually covered in it by the afternoon. It is honest work, even if it doesn't pay a lot in the end. We help each other with the planting and the harvesting because nobody can do it all alone in these conditions. Sometimes the machinery breaks, and we have to spend half the day fixing it with whatever tools we have on hand. It is just the way life is here in the colony. We take it one day at a time and hope for the best.
