Iba Salon & Academy By Raja

Down here at Rani Ka Bagh, things stay pretty lively because of the Distt. Library right across the street. We are inside Bhandari Estate, at number 7. Raja spends most of his day either cutting hair or teaching the younger kids who want to learn the trade from scratch. It’s a mix of a salon and a school, so you’ll usually see someone practicing with a comb or a pair of scissors on a plastic mannequin head in the corner. We get all sorts of people coming in to the shop. Some are just stopping by because they work in the nearby offices, and others are here for the long courses we offer. The building is an older one, but it works fine for us. We have enough space for the stations and a small area where the students sit and take their notes. It’s not always quiet, especially when everyone is talking at once or the hair dryers are going at full speed. We keep a stack of old magazines on the table for anyone waiting, though most people just look at their phones these days. Amritsar gets very hot in the summer months, so we keep the fans running all day long. It's a simple setup and we don't try to hide that. We focus on showing the students how to hold the tools correctly. Most days we are here from morning until late evening when the library shuts down.
