We set up Mamajis Pure Veg in Lane No 1 of Raylees Plot. It is quite close to the Mahaveer Market and the Jaystambh Chowk, so there are always people moving around nearby. Amravati gets really hot in the summer, and our lane can feel a bit cramped when it is busy, but it stays fairly active. We decided to keep everything strictly vegetarian because that is what we know how to do. The shop is not very large, and the furniture is just basic wooden stuff that does the job. We spend a lot of time in the back prep area. There is always a pile of potatoes to peel or greens to wash and chop. Since we are near the market, we get a lot of people stopping in after they finish their shopping. They usually look a bit tired from carrying bags, so we try to get their orders out quickly. We do not have a big menu with hundreds of items. We just make a few things that we have been making for a long time. The floor gets scuffed up pretty fast with all the foot traffic, so we are always mopping it down between the lunch and dinner shifts. It is just a regular life here. We open the shutters in the morning, do the cooking, talk to the neighbors, and close up once the market crowds have gone home. It is quiet at night, which is a nice change from the daytime rush at the chowk.
