Unique Stone Industries

Out here in Majri Kalan, life moves at its own pace. Our place is in the Behror tehsil, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a stone unit in this part of Rajasthan. We spend most of our time dealing with raw stone and the machines that cut them down to size. It’s loud and there’s always grit in the air, but that’s just the nature of the work we do. We started this because there’s plenty of stone around here and we knew how to handle it. The office isn't much to look at, just a place to sit and handle the papers when the trucks arrive or leave. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, which is frustrating, but we just wait it out. It’s a local operation, mostly guys from the nearby villages working the machines. We know the roads around Vpo.-Majri Kalan like the back of our hands. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills. We don't spend money on big signs or anything like that. People know where we are if they need stone from this area. The weather gets really dry and hot in the summer, which makes the work even tougher. We just keep our heads down and get the orders ready. There’s always someone coming by to check on a delivery or ask about prices. It is just basic work but it is important to us.
