Golden Metal Works

Golden Metal Works is located in Gali Purbiyan, which is part of Nai Basti. It is one of those narrow lanes where you have to watch your step. We do a lot of manual work here, mostly shaping and hitting metal. The sound of hammers is pretty much the soundtrack to our lives. It’s a hot job, especially when the furnaces are running or the sun is beating down on the roof. We don't have much space, so everything is organized in a very specific way so we can move around without bumping into each other. We are a small team, mostly family and a few neighbors. People in Nai Basti know us for the work we do with our hands. We don't use big automated machines for everything; we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way. It takes longer but we think the result feels more solid. The street outside is always full of kids playing or people moving goods on carts. We have been in Gali Purbiyan for many years now. Our sign is a bit faded, but most people know where we are. We don't do any big advertising because we are usually busy enough with the work that comes in from the local area. It is a tough way to make a living sometimes, but it is what we know and what we have always done for a long time.
