Jyothi Nikhethan School

Down here in Punnapra, we’re quite close to the water. Alappuzha is known for that, and it definitely affects the mood at the school. It can get pretty humid during the summer months, and the rain really pours down when the monsoon hits. Our school building is a familiar sight to people living around here. It’s not a huge place, but we make the most of what we have. Most of the kids come from families living right in the neighborhood. You see them walking to school or their parents dropping them off on scooters. We spend our mornings doing the usual things like assembly and then getting straight into the subjects. The teachers have been here for years, so they know the families and the siblings of the students. It’s that kind of place where you can’t really hide if you’ve been up to no good. We have a small playground that gets a lot of use during the breaks. The desks are a bit old and the walls could use some fresh paint here and there, but the place serves its purpose. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just show up, do the teaching, and make sure the kids are safe until it’s time for them to go home. Usually, we're all out of the building by five in the evening when things get quiet again. It’s just how things have always worked for us.
