We run Vishnupuri Shivraj Farmer Producer Company Limited from Vishnupuri. Specifically, we are at the home of Shri Deorao Bhagwantrao Hambarde. The company is named after our area because we are proud of where we come from. Everyone here is connected to the land in one way or another. We decided to start this company because we were tired of seeing small farmers get the short end of the stick. By coming together, we can buy what we need in bulk and sell our harvest for a better price. It’s pretty simple math, but it takes a lot of talking and organizing. Deorao’s house is where all the planning happens. We sit on the porch or in the front room and go over the numbers. It’s not a fancy setup, just some chairs and a ledger. We talk about the soy or the cotton or whatever else is growing that season. Sometimes the prices at the market are good, and sometimes they aren't. We try to help our members wait for the right time if they can. We also help with the transport because that's always a headache for one person to manage. We aren't a big corporation with offices in the city. We are just your neighbors. We know what it's like to work in the sun all day. We just want to make that work count for something. It’s about supporting the people we’ve known our whole lives here in Vishnupuri.
