Modern Light House

If you go to Khailand Market in Ajmer, you’ll find us in Sindhi Gali near Hathi Bhata. It’s a crowded market, very traditional, with people shouting and bikes squeezing past. Our shop, Modern Light House, is packed with all sorts of lights. We have ceiling fans, bulbs, fancy chandeliers, and simple wiring. When you walk in, it’s almost too bright because we have so many things turned on to show them off. It’s a bit chaotic, honestly. We have wires hanging from the ceiling and boxes stacked in the corners. People come in with broken lamps or asking for a bulb that won’t flicker. We spend a lot of time testing things on the counter to make sure they work before they leave. The market is noisy from morning till night, and we’re right in the thick of it. We’ve seen the shops around us change over the years, but we’ve stayed here doing the same thing. It’s not a fancy boutique. It’s a place where you get what you need for your house. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the other shopkeepers when things are slow. There’s no big philosophy here. We just sell lights and try to help people see a bit better in their homes. It’s a busy, dusty, bright life in the middle of Ajmer. Sometimes the power cuts off and we all just wait in the dark together until it comes back on.
