Shree Swami Summer Bricks Karkhana

The heat in Rahuri can be quite something, which I guess is why we have 'Summer' right in the name of Shree Swami Summer Bricks Karkhana. We are located at Musalwadi, and it’s a pretty wide-open area where we have plenty of room for the brick stacks. The work is very seasonal, and we have to make the most of the dry months before the rain turns everything into a swamp. I spend most of my time walking between the molding area and the loading trucks. My shoes are always covered in that Ahmednagar soil. We have a crew of workers who stay nearby, and we’ve become like a little community over the seasons. It’s not a polished business; the office is just a small room with a fan that barely works and a lot of ledgers. I handle most of the logistics, which basically means shouting at drivers and making sure the coal for the kiln arrives on time. Sometimes the bricks don't fire right, and we lose a whole batch, which is a tough day for everyone. But most days go okay, and we just keep the cycle going. People from the taluka know us and come by when they are starting a new project. We don't do much in the way of advertising; the stacks of bricks are usually enough to let people know we're open and working hard.
