Vimal Tools

Vimal Tools is located in Ambika Bhavan on the second floor. Our shop is in Ghusa Parekh’s Pole, which is part of Manek Chowk. To get to us, you have to walk down M G Haveli Road and find the right turn into the pole. These are very old streets, and they weren't built for cars. We see a lot of people walking by and cows roaming around sometimes. Our space is filled with all kinds of tools, mostly made of steel and iron. They are heavy, so carrying them up to the second floor is quite a workout. We have shelves that go all the way to the rafters. It’s a traditional way of doing business here. We know all the other traders in the pole. In the mornings, we open up the shutters and sweep the floor. Then we wait for the regular customers who need supplies for their workshops. We don't have a website or anything like that; people just know where we are. Sometimes we sit on the landing and talk to the neighbors while we have our tea. The building itself is old, with narrow stairs and thick walls. It stays relatively cool inside even when it's hot out. We just keep a record of what we sell in a simple notebook. It’s a slow and steady way of living and working in this part of town for years.
