You can find Gopinath Dye Chem at C1-241/1 in Phase-ii of the Gidc Estate in Vatva. This part of Ahmedabad is always packed with people and vehicles, so getting here in the morning is a bit of a challenge. Our unit is right in the thick of it. Since we deal with dyes, you’ll notice that the floor and even some of the walls have these permanent splashes of color—purples, reds, and blues that just won't come off no matter how much you scrub. It gives the place a strange look, I suppose. The air is heavy and damp, and there’s always the sound of water running through the pipes. We have a small office upstairs where it’s a bit quieter, but it’s usually quite hot up there. We spend most of our time on the ground level, checking the tubs and making sure the mixes are right. The street outside is narrow, and if a large truck comes through, everyone has to move their bikes out of the way. It’s a busy life in Vatva. We know the other business owners nearby, and we often share a newspaper or a bit of gossip while waiting for the afternoon tea delivery. It’s not a polished environment, just a place where colors are made every day and we deal with the stains on our clothes.
