Sompura & Co

Sompura & Co is located at 1955, right opposite the Municipal School. We are inside the Pattharkuva Darwaja in the Panchkuva area. This is a very old part of the city, and you can feel it in the narrow streets and the way the buildings are crowded together. The school across from us gets very loud during the lunch break and when the kids go home. You can hear the bells ringing throughout the day. We have been here for a long time, and the shop shows it. The walls are a bit faded and the stone samples in the front have been sitting there for years. It is a tight space, so we have to be very organized with how we stack the materials. Panchkuva is a place where everyone knows everyone else. We see the same faces walking by every morning. It’s a bit of a maze getting back here through the Darwaja, but once you are here, it’s a familiar spot. We handle a lot of stone work and the sound of the saws is part of the background noise along with the school kids' shouting. It isn't a quiet place, that's for sure. We keep a small stove in the back to make tea for ourselves and anyone who stops by for a chat. The work is steady and it keeps us here from early morning until the sun goes down over the old city walls.
