Sk Steel

Our office for Sk Steel is up on the fifth floor of Smita Tower, specifically room A-506. We are right opposite Vishram Nagar on Gurukul Road, which is a pretty busy part of Memnagar. From up here, we can look down at the street and see all the rickshaws and cars fighting for space throughout the day. The building is a typical commercial tower, always smelling a bit like floor cleaner and stale air in the hallways. Inside our unit, we deal with all the logistics of moving steel around, which involves a lot of phone calls and squinting at computer screens. It is a far cry from the actual yards where the steel is kept, but this is where the planning happens. We have a few mismatched chairs for when people come in to discuss orders, and the walls are mostly bare except for a calendar and a few notes taped up near the light switch. Memnagar is a hectic area, and being on Gurukul Road means we are right in the middle of it all. The afternoon sun hits our windows pretty hard, making the office warm even with the curtains drawn shut. We just focus on the numbers and making sure the trucks are going where they are supposed to. It is just a regular office life for us, filled with tea breaks and stacks of invoices that need checking before the day ends.
