Indian Steel Industries sits over at L-597 in the Gidc Estate, right behind the Odhav Police Station. If you’re driving down Odhav Road, you might miss us if you’re not looking, but the sound of metal usually gives us away. It is a loud place. Between the cutting and the moving of heavy sheets, there isn't much silence during the day. We’ve been in the Gidc for quite a while now. The building shows its age a bit, but the equipment inside is what matters. We aren't the type to wear suits or sit in air-conditioned offices. Most of us are out on the floor, getting our hands dirty. It’s a tough job sometimes, especially when the summer heat hits the metal roof. We just drink plenty of water and keep the machines running. We don’t have a fancy story about how we started. A few guys decided to work with steel and here we are. We don't use those corporate phrases because they don't really fit what we do. We just cut, bend, and ship steel. It is simple, practical work. We know our neighbors at the other units and sometimes help each other out. It’s a community of makers, and we’re just glad to be part of it.
