Sai Anand Electroplaters

Our place is Plot No. 13 in Bhagirath Estate. It is located in Gulabnagar, right near Mansuri’S Chal in the Amraiwadi area. Amraiwadi is a pretty busy part of town and it’s mostly industrial stuff around here. When you walk into the estate, you can smell the chemicals and the metal. It’s a smell you get used to after the first week, I guess. The shop itself isn't very large, but we make the most of the space we have. We do electroplating here, so there are tanks and wires and pieces of metal hanging all over. It’s messy work. Your hands stay dirty and the floor is always a bit wet or slippery from the splashing. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or anything like that. We just have a small wooden desk in the corner where we keep the ledger and the phone. The noise from the neighboring plots is constant, usually some hammering or grinding going on. We share a tea break with the guys from the next unit over when things slow down in the afternoon. It gets dusty because of the unpaved parts of the estate, but we try to sweep up when we can. We've been at Plot 13 for a long time and we know the rhythms of the neighborhood. It’s hard work and it’s hot, but it is what we do every day to keep the lights on.
