Ambica Steel Corporation

Ambica Steel Corporation is basically a big godown over at 5 Jyoti Godown on Ajod Dairy Road. You can usually smell the dairy when the wind blows the right way, which is a nice change from the smell of cut metal. We handle a lot of steel here—long bars, flat sheets, and heavy pipes. It’s heavy work and my back feels it some days, especially after we’ve had a big shipment come in. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading trucks that pull into the yard. The forklift is our best friend, even if it acts up occasionally and needs a kick to get started. The office is just a small partitioned space in the corner of the warehouse where we keep the invoices and the phone. It’s always ringing with people asking about prices or when their delivery is going to arrive. We don’t use any complicated systems; it’s mostly just notebooks and a lot of memory. Rakhial is a gritty place to work, but it’s got a lot of heart. We’ve been at this location for a long time and the regulars know us by name. We just try to get the steel out the door without too much fuss. It is a plain business, but it’s what we know how to do. Some days are long, but we get through the stacks eventually.
