Swagat Plastic

Swagat Plastic is situated in Gopinath Estate, specifically Vibhag-2, right near the Swaminarayan Chambers in Odhav. If you’re familiar with the Soni Ni Chali area in Ahmedabad, you’ll know it’s always packed with traffic and people. Our workshop at number 18 is where we spend our days. It’s a bit of a maze getting back here sometimes with all the other units around us, but we like the location. We work with all sorts of plastic materials, molding and shaping things as per what the customers need. The machines make a constant thumping sound that we don’t even notice anymore. It’s dusty work, and there are scraps of plastic everywhere, but we try to sweep up at the end of every day. The guys here are mostly locals from the neighborhood, so we all walk or bike to work. We don't have a big corporate structure; if there’s a problem, we just stand around the machine and figure it out together. Sometimes the power goes out in the estate, and we all just sit outside and wait for it to come back, chatting with the neighbors. It’s a very grounded way to work. We aren't doing anything fancy, just making the items that people need and keeping the business running as best as we can. The tea break at four o'clock is usually the highlight of our afternoon before we finish up and lock the gate for the night.
