Shree Chamunda Steel

Down at No. 38 Adarsh Estate- 1 in Odhav, the air always smells a bit like metal and industrial oil. That’s where you’ll find Shree Chamunda Steel. It’s a busy estate, and there is always a truck loading or unloading something nearby. Our unit isn't anything special to look at from the outside, just a big door and plenty of steel stacked inside. We spend most of our hours moving these heavy pieces around and making sure they are cut to the right size. It’s hard work on the back, and we all have thick gloves that are worn out at the fingertips. Odhav is the kind of place where everyone is busy doing something practical. We don't spend much time on the computer or talking on the phone unless it's to confirm a delivery. Most of our time is spent on the floor with the materials. Sometimes it gets really loud when the saws are going, and you have to shout to be heard over the noise. We have a small area where we sit to have our lunch, usually just some simple food brought from home. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it's hot outside, which is nice. We’ve been at Adarsh Estate- 1 for a good stretch of time now, and we know most of the guys in the neighboring units. It’s a community of workers just trying to get the job done right.
