Our place, Mayur Dye Chem, is located at Plot No. 332 in Phase-1 2 of the Gidc. We’re right behind the Lions School Club, which is a handy landmark when people are trying to find us for the first time. It’s an interesting spot because you can hear the kids playing during recess while we’re busy mixing dyes and chemicals. It’s a bit of a contrast, I suppose. The air inside the unit always smells a bit sharp, like vinegar or sulfur, depending on what we’re working on that day. We have vats and mixers that have been running for years, and they have a lot of character. We don’t have a high-tech lab with white coats. We wear old clothes that are usually stained with whatever color we’re producing that week. Blue, red, yellow—sometimes it’s a bit of everything. We spend a lot of time getting the shades just right, which involves a lot of trial and error and looking at samples under the light. It’s a messy job, and our hands are usually stained by the end of the shift. We’ve been part of this industrial community for a long time. We aren’t interested in being the biggest company around. We just want to keep the machines running and make sure our customers get exactly what they asked for. It’s a living, and it’s what we’re good at here on Plot 332. We just take it as it comes.
