M. K. Maniar

We are located in Chinubhai Tower, which is one of those well-known buildings on Ashram Road. Our office is on the upper level, specifically between 160 and 166. It’s a big space but we’ve filled it up with years of work and papers. Ashram Road is the heart of Ahmedabad in many ways, so there is always noise from the street below. We’ve seen the skyline change quite a bit from our windows. M. K. Maniar is the name on the door, and that’s who we are. It’s not a flashy place. We have the old-style wooden desks and a lot of filing cabinets because we still like to keep things on paper. Most of our day is spent sitting and going through documents or talking to people who come up to see us. The upper level of the tower has a certain feel to it—it’s a bit quieter than the ground floor shops. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time. People who know us know exactly which stairs or elevator to take. We don't spend money on big signs or anything. We just keep our heads down and do the tasks that come our way. Sometimes the tea man comes by and that’s the highlight of the afternoon. It’s a simple professional life, nothing more and nothing less. We just stay busy with the work that arrives on our desks every morning.
