Somnath Foundry

Working at a foundry isn’t for everyone, but we’ve been at it for a long time here at Plot No. 95. Somnath Foundry is a place where it’s always hot, no matter what the weather is like outside. We’ve got the furnaces and the molds set up across the floor. It’s a lot of physical labor, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. The plot isn't the biggest, so we have to be careful with how we move things around. There's a specific rhythm to the work that you only learn by being here every day. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy speeches. We just know how to work with the metal and get the castings right. The walls are blackened from the smoke over the years, and there's a layer of sand on just about everything. It’s a tough environment, but there’s a good group of people here. We share our lunches and talk about the news during the breaks. Being at Plot No. 95 means you're part of the industrial landscape. We don't try to sugarcoat it. It’s loud, it’s hot, and it’s hard work. But it’s what we know. We don't have a big sign out front, just the work going on inside that lets people know we’re open. We just keep the fires going and handle the orders as they come through the door.
