You can find Gayatri Steel Traders at Plot No. 488 in Navapura, which is over in Changodar. We are situated near the Sarkhej Bavla National Highway 8, so we see a lot of long-distance trucks passing by all the time. The location is quite open and the wind really blows through the yard, which helps when it’s hot but covers everything in highway dust. We deal mostly with steel trading and our days are filled with loading and unloading materials. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and checking the sizes of the pipes and rods we have in stock. The noise from the highway is something you just get used to after a while. We have a small shed on the plot where we keep some of the more delicate stuff away from the rain. Changodar is growing fast but it still feels a bit like the edge of the city. We don't have any big corporate systems here, just us keeping track of things in our books and making sure the inventory is right. Sometimes it’s quiet for a few hours and then three trucks show up at once and we have to scramble. It’s a straightforward way to make a living and we don't try to make it seem like anything more than it is. We just focus on the steel and the daily tasks. We usually finish up when the traffic on the highway starts to thin out in the late evening.
