Vardhman Textiles

Vardhman Textiles sits at Plot No. 511 in the Dholka Gidc. When you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the sound of the looms. It is a steady rhythm that you eventually stop hearing after working here for a few months. There is lint and bits of thread everywhere, no matter how much we sweep. We handle different kinds of fabrics and it is interesting to see the raw thread turn into something useful. My grandfather was into textiles and I guess it just stayed in the family. We don't have a fancy showroom with mannequins. We just have big rolls of cloth stacked up against the walls. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a specific run for a customer who needs it by morning. The air gets a bit heavy when the machines are all running at once. We usually have the big doors open to catch a breeze. We talk to the other guys in the Dholka Gidc during lunch breaks about how the market is doing. It is a tough business sometimes because the price of yarn goes up and down so much. We just try to keep our machines in good shape so they don't break down in the middle of a job. It is not glamorous work but it is what we know how to do.
