Desert Ecology And Environmental Research Association

It's quiet out here in Santalpur. We spend most of our time looking at the land. The Desert Ecology And Environmental Research Association is basically just us working from Vinod Nagarlal Rajgor’s place. It’s not a big office building or anything fancy. We deal with the local environment because that's what's right outside the door. Some days are slow. We do our research and keep records. Patan is a dry area, so the desert stuff is important to everyone living around here. We aren't trying to change the world overnight, just keeping track of the plants and the soil. People sometimes stop by to ask what we're doing. It’s mostly just paperwork and field notes. We’ve been here for a bit now. The heat gets pretty bad in the afternoons, so we usually get the outdoor work done early. It’s a simple setup. We don't have a lot of staff. Most of the time it’s just a couple of us going through data or checking on site locations. Living and working in Gujarat like this means you get used to the dust. We just keep at it day by day. Nothing too exciting happens, but the work is steady. We try to be helpful when the local community needs information about the land or the weather patterns. It's a small association, but we stay busy enough with the limited resources we have available to us right now.
